Question: My dad was a scuba diver for a while, and we have some old filled scuba tanks, and since CO2 is pretty expensive, I was wondering if you could just use regular air.
Answer: Hi, You couldn't fill a CO2 tank with it, as it is meant to contain chilled gas....at about 600 to 900 psi. Most compressed air tanks carry the air at much higher pressures...and the CO2's tank would literally pop its valve tip and become a projectile. You can however, fill a High Pressure Air or Nitrogen tank with it...as long as your marker has not problem using HPA/Nitrogen. You would need an adapter to fit onto the scuba tanks that would let you fill the HPA tanks. You can usually find them on EBay in the 30-40 dollar range. Here is an example: http://cgi.ebay.com/Scuba-fill-station-adapter-paintball-tank-filler-new_W0QQitemZ300121981116QQihZ020QQcategoryZ83044QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Keep in mind HPA tanks seem to vary from about 3000 to 5 or 6000 psi, you would need to figure out what your scuba tanks are filled at, and also get a valve adapter that can handle that sort of pressure. You would also want to keep in mind that you can get a fair amount of refills from that scuba tank...but then you'd have to take that tank to refill it....don't know how much of a chore that would be, given size and weight, etc. Hope this helps.
